| Check out this sample clue to get a feel for how we run
our Treasure Hunts. This clue was used on one of our Road Rally
Hunts. |
|
The players were presented with a wrapped
package, containing the pieces to the clue, a CD and a puzzle
sheet. They knew they had to solve the puzzle and use the answer
with their map in order to find their next destination and retrieve
a secret code.
|
|
|
The puzzle sheet contained two columns that
had to be matched up properly. Column one had the names of 33 super heroes,
and column two listed their secret identities in mixed up order.
In addition, the bottom of the
puzzle sheet contained a clue: Place
your construction project answer in the following the blanks. Are extra
pieces bad? No, they teach us.
|
|
| Batman |
12 |
| Superman |
7 |
| Wonder Woman |
3 |
| The Invisible Woman |
22 |
| Spiderman |
29 |
| The Riddler |
11 |
|

|
|
| Diana Prince |
51 |
| Edward Nygma |
70 |
| Peter Parker |
55 |
| Bruce Wayne |
82 |
| Susan Storm |
68 |
| Clark Kent |
64 |
|
|
After matching the Names to the Secret
Identities, you ended up with several number pairs. For example,
Batman (12) went with Bruce Wayne (82). The players would then
use these number pairs with the plastic pipes found in the box.
|
|
Each pipe piece had numbers
written on it. By matching up the numbers based on the number
pairs you found in the SuperHero puzzle, players could start their
construction project. |
|
|
|
Once the construction was finished, the
pipes fit together to create the initials: A C P.
The only question was what did this mean?
|
|
|
The answer could be found based on the clue
from the Puzzle Sheet. Are extra pieces bad? No, they teach us.
There was one unused piece from the construction project. It was a tube
with fake numbers on it that did not match up to anything. Looking inside
that tube, players found a small scrap of paper with the characters "3
H" on it.
When the players reviewed their map, and used 3H as map coordinates, they
found a square on the map grid containing Apex Community Park, which corresponded
to the initials in the construction project: A C P. |
From here, the players traveled to Apex Community Park,
listening to the CD in their vehicle on the way. The CD contained the
following clues: |

Welcome back to the treasure
hunt!
Hopefully by this point you have discovered the mystery location
and are on your way there. Now, here is your clue for the secret
code from this location.
After two stops and two big bumps, a collection of cages will
appear.
Exit your vehicle where the flood waters would not reach you.
Between the beach and the caged court, imagine you are a bird
and look for the equal sign.
Find the gray that lines the top, sum the pieces and you’ll
have your answer. |
|
To find the answer, the players drove to Apex Community
Park. After arriving, they would drive into the park, crossing 2 speed
bumps and 2 stop signs.
They would then come to the area with the caged tennis courts. They would
have the opportunity to park either up the hill or down the hill. They
would choose the upper ground, because that is where "flood waters
would not reach you".
To find the area between the beach and the caged court, you'd look between
the volleyball area and the one caged basketball court.
Using a birds-eye view, the concrete benches would appear as an equal
sign. Lining the top of the benches are a series of gray, concrete blocks.
Players would need to count these on both benches and sum the total to
get an answer of 36 (18 blocks per bench).
This answer of 36 would then go onto the final answer sheet and was used
to help locate the restaurant where their secret dinner party was being
held. |
